About Us

For the homeless, abused, or neglected animals of the Illinois Valley area, Safe House is a beacon of hope, a place for second chances, a warm spot to rest tired heads, to heal wounds and start anew.

Safe House Animal Rescue League (formerly Illinois Valley Cat Taxi) is a 501(c)3 (nonprofit) organization run exclusively by dedicated volunteers. We are implementing innovative and progressive life-saving programs throughout central Illinois that pave the way for No-Kill communities where no pets are killed simply for being homeless.

We focus on rescuing pets who are at the greatest risk of being killed in shelters or animal control facilities, adopting these pets into loving homes, providing low cost spay/neuter to both owned and community cats, offering impounded feral cats a second chance at life as working mousers through our Barn Cat Program.

Since 2008, we have spayed or neutered over 3,000 cats and have saved hundreds of lives through our adoption programs. Safe House is a foster home based rescue currently fundraising to build a shelter facility. Until then, all of our pets live in home environments with real families until they are adopted. This prepares them for a successful transition to your home and allows us to know each pet as an individual.

Please get involved and help us save more lives – volunteer, foster, donate.
