Just as many hospitals are bound to provide care regardless of ability to pay, IVCT is bound to care for the cats and other animals that they take in. I choose to donate part of my discretionary income and volunteer time to cat rescue because I love it, as people who are passionate about other issues donate their time and resources to their causes. Yes, there are millions of good animals euthanized in this country every year - a very small percentage of them are in IVCT's territory; Monica Frenden and her team know that they cannot save every animal in the United States, but they fight hard (and at great personal expense) to save the ones they can. People are free to donate to her work, or to education, or to lobbying for reform, or any myriad of causes, and nobody has the right to apply relativism to passions or charitable causes. I agree with Julie - animals can't help themselves and in exchange for their time on earth as our pets we get health benefits like reduced stress, lower blood pressure etc. just for giving them a chance. Hell, we're euthanizing people down that seem to be an economic drain our system that contribute way less.
